Combining theatre and crosstalk performances, Hundred Years of Crosstalk depicts the struggles and triumphs in the evolution of Chinese crosstalk. Six iconic excerpts performed by several top crosstalk artists from China feature how early performers used their wit and wisdom to ensure the survival of their art. Catch artists such as He Yunwei and Li Jing, who became household names after performing on the 2011 CCTV New Year’s Gala show; veteran artists Li Lisan, Liu Hongyi and Wang Wenlin; Ying Ning and Wang Yuebo, who put up an impressive performance in Singapore in 2010; as well as artists formerly from the renowned Guo Degang’s Deyun Society. This unconventional crosstalk performance is conceptualised by Han Lao Da and directed by Liu Hongyi and Kok Heng Leun.
The crosstalk art form we know today has come a long way since its difficult beginnings in the late Qing Dynasty and early days of the Republic of China. Back then, crosstalk performers enjoyed little recognition for their art and endured many hardships, with some performing on the streets and others coerced into becoming entertainers for warlords. With dedication and hard work, crosstalk has now risen to prominence as a celebrated art form in its own right.

多位来自北京的顶尖相声演员，将通过戏剧融入相声的手法，演绎中国曲艺艺人在动荡的大时代中历经的艰辛与无奈。六个经典段子:
《开买卖》、《双簧》、《八大改行》，《百家姓》、《大审诓供》，《武坠子》，展现早期民间艺人如何运用聪明才智继承优秀传统，体现小人物绝处逢生的智慧。主要演员包括 2011年上中国央视春晚而家喻户晓的何云伟和李菁,相声界的文职将军李立山,前辈演员刘洪沂、王文林,2010年到访狮城给观众留下深刻印象的应宁、王玥波,以及多位在北京红极一时的郭德纲“德云社”前主要演员等。演出由韩劳达策划,刘洪沂和新加坡戏剧盒的艺术总监郭庆亮联合导演。
