SYNOPSIS:
The Chinese Opera Institute proudly presents a new production entitled "Many Faces of Chinese Opera".
"Many Faces of Chinese Opera" showcases the specific features of the four main role types of Chinese Opera: Sheng (male), Dan (female), Qing (painted face), Chou (clown).
The performance explores the relationships of the various opera roles with the stylized skills and techniques employed in Chinese Opera.
The artistic concept was conceived and directed by Bai Yin Wen, a senior instructor of the Chinese Opera Institute and veteran in Chinese opera and dance. He is assisted by another senior instructor of the institute, Li Shuai Min.
The production integrates the stories from "Cross Road Inn", "Wu Song at the Inn", "The Hu Village" and "Lifting the Chariots" to showcase the forte of each of the performers.
The Objectives of the production are:
To provide a new perspective for the appreciation of Chinese opera.
To innovate based on the classical repertoire of Chinese opera.
To showcase the talents of students who have been trained by the Chinese Opera Institute.
