After topping the imperial examinations, Gao Wenju is ordered by an imperial decree to marry Wen Jin, the daughter of Prime Minister Wen Jiong. Unable to forget his wife Wang Yuzhen, Wenju writes to her to join him in the capital. Wen Jiong and Wen Jin plot to kill Yuzhen on her trip to the capital. Luckily, she is saved by Grandma Zhou and continues her journey.
Yuzhen reaches the capital but accidentally seeks lodging at the Wen’s Mansion where she is being locked up. Wenju learns of Yuzhen’s predicament and rescues her. Indignant at how Yuzhen is treated, Wenju rebukes Wen Jiong and Wen Jin for their behaviour and resigns from the office.
