During the reign of Emperor Qian Long (AD 1736 - 1795) of the Qing Dynasty, a manchu general led his army to attack a tribe with the objective of capturing Xiang Fei, wife of the tribal chief, and presenting her to the Emperor.

The tribe put up a strong resistance. The tribal chief sustained serious injuries.
Before he died he asked Xiang Fei to surrender in order to save the tribe from annihilation. Xiang Fei reluctantly agreed.

Xiang Fei was a beauty whose body emanated an odour of fragrance.

However, instead of submitting to the Emperor, she took the opportunity to assassinate him to avenge her husband's death but she failed. She was finally executed by the Empress Dowager against the wish of the Emperor.

The opera features Chan Mei Leng as Xiang Fei, Kwok Kwong Luen as the tribal chief, and Chan Mei Yin as Emperor Qian Long.
