Kreta Ayer People’s Theatre Foundation (KAPTF)
Founded by the late Deputy Prime Minister Dr Goh Keng Swee, KAPTF is an approved charitable organization managed by a Board of Governors chaired by Dr Lee Boon Yang, MP for Jalan Besar GRC and former Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts, and a Management Committee chaired by Associate Professor Ho Peng Kee, Senior Minister of State (Law and Home Affairs). The Foundation’s objective is to promote the appreciation of Chinese culture among more Singaporeans and towards this end, it endeavours to engage only troupes of proven artistic standard. Through its efforts, the Foundation hopes that more Singaporeans would appreciate our rich cultural heritage of which Chinese opera is a fitting showcase. The Foundation, being a non-profit organization, the proceeds from all its cultural events have been used to help the aged and underprivileged (such as the annual Chinese New Year’s ang pow gifts to those on public assistance in Chinatown) as well as to fund worthy community projects.
